As the reports came in of the death of North Korean dictator, Kim Jong Il, I was on chaplain duty at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. In fact, I heard most of the details of the death of this tyrant as I was getting into Miss Sadie’s barber chair.

Sadie: “Chaplain, ‘ you hear ‘bout dat nut dying from South Korea?”

MM: “North Korea…”

“Oh, yeah, North Korea.”

“Well, I did hear about it on the news coming in this morning, Sadie.”

“You know what I think, chaplain?”

“No ma’am. What do you think?”

“I think he wasn’t thinkin’ ‘bout dying. I think he was thinkin’ ‘bout all them women and lobsters and caviar and all of that rich food he was eating and wine he was drinking while his poor people were starving to death! But death came like a thief in the night and took him away.”

“Yes ma’am.”

“Chaplain, you know what?”

“What?”

“This man who said he was like God, and who had those poor people starving and who persecuted the believers there, he wasn’t expecting death, but death came. And now you know what?”

“What?”

“That man—oh my God—that man is standing before Almighty God. He may have thought he was a god, but now he knows the truth. He knows the truth he denied in this world. He denied Jesus. Oh my God, oh my God. He is being judged. Chaplain, that is the truth ain’t it?””

“Yes ma’am that is what the Bible says.”

“He thought, ‘I got all I need,’ but you know what, chaplain?”

“What ma’am?”

“That man didn’t have squat. He didn’t have Jesus. Now he stands naked before His Maker. Oh Lord! It don’t  matter if you got the whole world but you lose your soul. He ain’t got nothing. Absolutely nothing. He got judgment. Now he got that. Oh Lord.”

“Well, that is true, Sadie, and…”

“You know what Chaplain?”

“Uh…no, ma’am. What?”

“The devil is saying, ‘Stoke that fire! I got another one!’”

“Well, yes ma’am, you could put it like that and…”

“And the devil got all the time in the world, that is, until Jesus comes back and throws him and his demons in the Hell they are putting other folks in. Then his day is up. But now? He saying, ‘Come on Mr. Dictator, I been waitin’ for you boy!’”

“Yes, and the sad thing is…”

“Well, the sad thing is, Chaplain—now, I’m gonna tell you what the sad thing really is—there is a whole lot of other folks just like that crazy dictator was. They don’t think death is comin’. They living like they got all the time in the world. But they ain’t. That is for sure. They ain’t. They gonna be standing before God ‘fore you know it, huh, Chaplain?”

“Well, that is really true Sadie, and I would say…”

“And I will tell you something else. I am telling every one who comes and sits in this chair they better turn to Jesus Christ and call on Him and make Him Lord and Savior. I’m telling everybody, ‘You better turn to Jesus Christ right now ‘fore your heart gets hard and you can’t! That dictator had a hard heart. You better turn! You better turn now! I tell that to my children and I tell that to everybody comes here.”

“Sadie, I think this chair is your pulpit.”

“Well, now, chaplain, I ain’t never heard that. But I like that, ‘This chair is MY pulpit.’”

“That is right. This is where God has placed you.”

“Chaplain?”

“Yes, Sadie.”

“That man is before God right now as we speak.”

“Yes, Sadie…”

“Chaplain? How about you and your…”

“Well, I have turned to Christ.”

“No, chaplain, how do you want your hair cut? Medium or you want that ‘HU-AHH! like them young boys?”

“Medium is fine, Sadie.”

“You know what, chaplain?”

“What’s that, Sadie.”

“It is a good day to pray for folks.”

“Well, it sure is, Sadie. It most certainly is.”
