The Time to Pray

JMW Turner (1775-1851). “Moonlight on Lake Lucerne,” 1834.

A portion of the Gospel Reading for today includes that time when Jesus miraculously fed the multitudes.

“And after he had taken leave of them, he went up on the mountain to pray” (Mark 6:46).

Jesus valued prayer over publicity. He recognized that time with God is required for time with others. His purpose in public life was shaped by the power of  private prayer. While St. Paul admonishes the Church to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17), we are to also learn from Jesus (in Mark 6:47 ) that while the soul should assume a perennial posture of prayer, such an unceasing practise does not nullfy the soul’s necessity for appointed solitude in pray.

Have you sought the Lord Jesus Christ in private prayer? Make your appointment now. He is the mighty Counselor who ever lives to intercede for you.

“Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7:25 ESV).
