Holy remembrance of God’s grace and sovereign dealings with us yesterday, works grateful obedience to His Law today.
Thus, the Lord God taught Israel to recall His glory in the wilderness, so to follow Him gratefully in the Promised Land.
To meditate upon Christ and His life, and to remember—through Word, Sacrament, and Prayer—the glory of our redemption through His triumphs over the devil in the wilderness and all Hell on the Cross and the unconquerable grip of death conquered in the empty tomb, is to know the power to walk the life of holiness in a foreign and often hostile land.
“And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not” (Deuteronomy 8:2).
