Reformed Perspectives Magazine, a journal put out by Third Millennium Ministries, has published an article I wrote entitled, Engrafted, Not Replaced: How I View Ethnic Israel, and Why I Support Ethnic Jews and the State of Israel and Pray for Them to be Saved by Jesus Christ.” The piece is a response to the growing charges of “replacement theology” by some in Dispensationalist circles. I trust the article has more light than heat. I certainly intended it to be that way. But I also wanted it to be clearly stated that those of us who believe that the Covenant of God’s Grace fulfilled in Christ Jesus is the scarlet thread that binds all Scripture together also can and do hold to a love for the Jewish people, and even, politically, many, maybe most, have great support for the modern state of Israel. Believing in the “Israel of God” and the oneness and unity of all the people of God should promote love for our Jewish brethren, from whom came the covenants and oracles of God (and from whom came our Lord and Savior).I pray that those in the Body of Christ may seek to live out a visible expression of Christ’s prayer that we become “one.” Uncharitable polemics hinder our work. Seeking a common life together, based on the Person and Work of Jesus Christ, advances His grace in the world. I hope this article does that in some way.
