The word “hero” has been cheapened by using it to describe the likes of NBA players and Hollywood movie stars. A hero, as Oliver North writes in the Introduction to Out of the Depths, is someone who risks his life so that others will live.Edgar Harrell, USMC is a hero. One of the 317 survivors of the USS Indianapolis, sunk by a Japanese torpedo in the Philippine Sea, during the last weeks of World War Two, this man of God has a story to tell. I heard him at the Navy League of Chattanooga, TN last Tuesday. I am presently reading his book, Out of the Depths, to my son before bed. This is a great book that deserves a reading by anyone interested in the stories of The Greatest Generation. This man gives all glory to God and inspires the reader to trust God and love this country.
