Sandwiched in between a host of meetings and deadlines and the start of a new sermon series and congregation-wide small group outreach, I have taken my wife and son to rest. My chosen place for this solitude is Arizona. But what I have found again is that one cannot separate a vocation from a vacation. I am as excited about preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the day when I first set anchor on this journey. No, I think moreso. But the rest is good. Even our Lord sought out such times. And it is especially good for my wife who has been ill. The sun is warm, the blue sky is welcomed, laughing with my son in the blue pool of the hotel is unforgettable. Yet the call of the Lord continues to beckon me. For this I am thankful.
