My Friend the Archbishop

It has been a great day in the Lord. We welcomed The Most Reverend Henry Luke Orombi to our church and to our community today. This great Christian leader and evangelist has been speaking this week to Covenant College students. He preached this morning in the pulpit of The First Presbyterian Church of Chattanogoa and this evening, in a joint PCA worship service (with local Anglican “continuing” congregations), he preached on “friendship with Jesus” at Covenant Presbyterian Church. I thought as I heard him, “I,too, have not only a friend in Jesus, but a new friend in Henry.” And I rather chuckled as I said it, “My friend, the Archbishop.” I have in him a man with a great spirit, a blessed anointing of the Holy Spirit, and an optimistic vision of the Kingdom of God. I am thankful for his presence among us, and for the time I got to spend with this unique, bold, and godly pastor to pastors. His presence reminded us to: stand up for Jesus no matter what, that life is about Jesus Christ and not about ourselves, that to give your life away to Jesus Christ and His service is noble and courageous and good, to think strategically about the world, to never give in on the cardinal concerns of the inerrency of Holy Scripture, the divinity of Jesus Christ, the morality of a true grace, and the centrality of preaching the Word. I ask God to bless this man who has now come to bring blessing to America and to light a lamp for Christ from the burning fire of revival in his own nation. May it be so.
